INSIDE THE PRACTICE SESSION

BROKE AGAIN—original blues song

I wrote this when I was trying to make ends meet. Now, I’m not financially viable and I can’t make ends meet. I live in government-supported housing, which is where I recorded this song, and beg money sometimes from my friends at the end of the month, when Social Security money’s been all spent.

NEW E MINOR PENTATONIC BLUES SONG

HOW TO PLAY “ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE,” by Jerome Kern

DAYS WINDING DOWN

DAYS WINDING DOWN

Pending my ultimate discharge from the psych

Hospital to where you are, and

I’m not happy

You don’t care like they do

Some nurses especially took caring personal

Whom confidentiality and jealousy

Debar mention; I hope they know

Know these words mean them

One caring I care most about

Outside while I’m inside

I am lucky to have what I have

And I know not

To want more than what

I have, now

What I have now, this moment, I learned, here

Is all there is to have

While it is, and not, when it is not

And life is enough, quite adequate

The In-Charge Professional

Watched my prescribed stabilization

Until They deemed my stabilization

Meant discharge

And never a return to visit—

Contrary to the Recovery Plan

“Planned Obsolescence” The In-Charge Professional

Billed Themselves

I leave my honest gratitude out the door

Making public my mental health history and experiences is part of my Ministry and Mission. Accordingly, I grant full permission to disclose my name as author of this poem, and that I was under the psychiatric care at Royal Alexandra Hospital, and under the care of each nurse and doctor I was under the care of—jointly and severally, or whatever legal terms apply: I wave my right to confidentiality.

I hand-delivered this to the two nurses I had in mind, autographed it, and dedicated it to them, individually. And also hand presented it to the In-Charge Professional.

I intended to give it to the charge desk, for all the nurses, but one of the nurses I hand delivered it to said it would cause conflicts. They know whom the nurses are who care, and they would resent them. it’s that line about confidentiality and jealousy.
